Before replacing batteries, you must switch the control panel to Service Mode to prevent triggering a tamper alarm. Once in Service Mode, open the detector cover, verify the correct battery polarity (typically AA, AAA, or CR2032 depending on the model), and replace all batteries simultaneously.
